The salmon is generously seasoned with lemon pepper seasoning and dotted with melted butter before it is baked. Then we serve it with a cream sauce made with sour cream, mayonnaise, a drizzle of lemon juice, fresh dill and a touch of horseradish cream.
The sauce can be thick or thin, depending on how you prefer it and you can also opt to pan-sear the salmon as well. And for those that want to stay healthy with the baked option, you can leave out the butter and substitute the sour cream in the sauce with some Greek yogurt. There are plenty of options to enjoy this fresh take on salmon.
It’s a great answer to a quick and easy weeknight dinner or an impromptu date night. Serve it with some greens like green beans, broccoli, or asparagus. Let’s start cooking.
SALMON IN CREAMY DILL SAUCE RECIPE TIPS
Salmon – Use either fresh or frozen salmon at about 5-8 oz. each. Cook the salmon until internal temperature reaches 145˚F with a meat thermometer. The standard rule of thumb is to cook for 10 minutes per inch of thickness which is measured from the salmon’s thickest point. Ideally, the salmon is perfectly cooked when it flakes easily with a fork.
Baking sheet – I used a baking sheet to make this but you can also do it in a casserole dish or oven-safe skillet. If you don’t feel like heating up the whole house, you can also pan-fry it over the stovetop.
Sour cream – You can substitute sour cream with plain Greek yogurt for a lighter, healthier dill sauce.
Dill sauce – If the sauce is too thick for your liking, thin it out with a couple of teaspoons of milk until you get the consistency you want.
Serve with – Balance out the meal with some greens like green beans, broccoli, or asparagus. You can also pair it with a side of potatoes like creamy mashed potatoes, potatoes au gratin, or cauliflower au gratin.
And that’s about it. Enjoy this fresh take on salmon with a chilled dill sauce that compliments the strong flavor of salmon perfectly. Happy eating and let me know how you enjoyed it in the comments below!
